The Research Says…

A popular myth once deterred people receiving the countless benefits of Chiropractic care. The myth involved the assertion that once a person engaged with Chiropractic care, they became forever bound to continue or risk a detrimental outcome. Nothing could be further from the truth!

Americans champion their freedom. Health care represents one of the many ways in which people embrace freedom of choice in the form of doctors, treatments, diets, and supplements. Even people with specific insurance plans maintain the freedom to pursue health outside the limits and bounds of insurance offerings. Chiropractic care also offers the freedom to pursue short term or long-term care.

The misconception regarding Chiropractic revolved ironically around the reality of positive results within the nervous system. Meditation, exercise, and vitamins all represent health choices which become increasingly beneficial through regularity. Lifestyle choices impact health. A person choosing Chiropractic care or other form of lifestyle choice intended for long term health improvement noticed results over a period of time and consistency. Those benefits naturally revert and deteriorate when someone chooses to step away from that lifestyle choice, whether it be exercise, a healthy diet, or Chiropractic care.

Groundbreaking research published in one of the world’s most prestigious medical journals showed the value and benefits of regular Chiropractic adjustments. The study randomly divided a group of sixty patients with back pain. The first group received placebo adjustments throughout the trial. The second group received three real adjustments per week for four weeks with no follow up care. The third group received three real adjustments per week for four weeks with one additional adjustment every two weeks for the following nine months.

Results declared what most Chiropractors witness on a regular basis. The groups receiving real adjustments reported significant relief and improved function compared to the group receiving placebo adjustments. Further evidence revealed that participants who received on-going adjustments every two weeks achieved the highest level of function, comfort, mobility, and life quality. The group who received positive initial results with real adjustments before reverting to a previous lifestyle experienced diminished results over time. The reality of the study reflects in other arenas of health care. People maintain the freedom to make lifestyle choices which produce positive outcomes over a period of consistency and regularity. People also lose progress when they revert to a previous, less healthy lifestyle.

Chiropractic care provides maintenance and healing within the body. Evidence-based research proved long ago that adjustments create improved health and function within the body. Someone acclimated to better health will experience a deterioration of their health when they choose to no longer care for their nervous system. A similar outcome would occur in someone who exercises and maintains a healthy diet but chooses to become sedentary and eat foods high in fat.

A consistent approach to proactive health care empowers entire families to better function and life quality. Chiropractic patients experience genuine improvement in health and performance by unlocking potential within the body. Regular adjustments ensure that optimal health for the entire family remains a never-ending pursuit.

Science defines vertigo as a sudden internal or external spinning sensation, often triggered by moving the head too quickly. The words vertigo and dizziness often interchange to describe the feeling of spinning while a person sits or stands still. Episodes of dizziness and vertigo account for over 10 million visits to the doctor each year. These symptoms incapacitate the strongest and most able-bodied people. An equilibrium problem devastates the quality of life for anyone affected. The primary medical options to address vertigo consists of medication.

Conventional medical professionals typically recommend brain and nervous system imaging for vertigo sufferers to rule out possible abnormal tissue growth. Negative images usually prompt a round of drug therapy. Drugs used to treat dizziness and vertigo come with the price of unwanted nervous system side effects. The list of side effects associated with vertigo tends to be lengthy due to the chemistry involved in medications that impact the nervous system. People suffering from vertigo often endure these uncomfortable effects out of desperation to bring dizzy spells under control. A solution exists outside the realm of drugs and surgery.

Research published in 1998 and again in 2016 linked the alignment and function of the upper neck as a major factor in the presence or absence of dizziness. Nerves in and around the bones and tissue in the upper neck and skull branch directly to parts of the brain that coordinate balance and equilibrium. Studies showed that 62% of patients suffering from vertigo experienced misalignments and dysfunction in the three bones of the upper neck. 77% of those patients reported a significant alleviation of symptoms after experiencing a correction in spinal alignment.

Over 10 million doctor visits take place each year to seek relief for vertigo related symptoms. The research determined that more than three out of every four people suffering from dizziness received permanent healing and restoration from seeking pain-free Chiropractic intervention rather than consuming a cycle of medications. A non-invasive health care option focuses on health and healing rather than the consumption and toil of drugs and side effects.

Chiropractors do not seek to treat symptoms or conditions like vertigo. Spinal care focuses on removing interference from the brain and central nervous system. The direct and intimate relationship between the spine and central nervous system explains how and why vertigo patients experience relief from dizzy spells. Chiropractors spend years in advanced education to learn how to assess the health of the spine with precision and correct any areas of interference and stress on the nervous system.

Many factors contribute to dizziness and vertigo, but none more consistently than upper neck misalignments. Science coined the term “cervical vertigo” back in 1955 to describe the cause of many unwanted dizziness and vertigo symptoms. Cervical bones comprise the spinal bones in the neck. Chiropractors continue to bring healing and restoration to the same causes which existed over 60 years ago when professionals traced the causes of vertigo to issues in the neck. Chiropractic care offers a drug free alternative that pursues permanent healing in the body. 10 million annual visits to the doctor proves the need for a better alternative. Chiropractic works.

This is our non-surgical treatment for low back disc protrusion (disc herniation). Spinal decompression works by applying a gentle pressure and pulling apart the vertebra and creating a negative pressure inside the disc.

A kinetic chain entails a process in which each joint or segment in the chain effects every other segment during movement. Energy and movement in one segment creates a chain of events which affects neighboring joints and segments. A tangible example involves using playing cards or dominos to create a chain reaction beginning with movement in a single part which impacts the whole.

The spine makes up a kinetic chain. Chiropractors understand that a holistic approach provides the best method of ensuring total body care when assessing and addressing symptoms of disease. The existence of a problem in one area of the spine radiates effects onto other parts of the spine and body. Pain tends to be the last sign that a problem exists. A proactive approach ensures the body be kept in the best position possible to prevent pain and disease from occurring. Chiropractors and other spinal health professionals understand and approach the spine as a powerful kinetic chain which influences the health of the entire body.

A leading spine expert Dr. John Bland accurately stated:

“We tend to divide the examination of the spine into regions: cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine clinical studies. This is a mistake. The three units are closely interrelated structurally and functionally. A whole person with a whole spine. The cervical spine (neck) may be symptomatic (painful) because of a thoracic (mid-back) or lumbar (low back) spine abnormality, and vice versa. Sometimes treating the lumbar spine will relieve a cervical spine syndrome, or proper management of the cervical spine will relieve a low back ache.”

– Disorders of the Cervical Spine

The spine consists of twenty-four moveable bones stacked on top of each other with a shock absorber in between each segment. The shock absorber is called an intervertebral disc. Chiropractors focus on the health and functionality of the entire spine to ensure proper alignment and movement within each vertebra and disc.

The spine also intimately connects with the brain and central nervous system. Movement makes up a key ingredient in proper brain and nervous system function. Proper movement means the brain and body communicate to the fullest potential. Every adjustment helps unlock any stiffness or lack of mobility to ensure the process of maximum health and healing. As the spine gets healthier and more well-adjusted, the body gets healthier through better nervous system function. Proactively detecting and addressing all areas of the spine within the kinetic chain remains the ultimate goal. Chiropractors take pride in helping their practice members achieve healthier, more active without drugs or surgery. Stay connected to better help with Chiropractic.
