Research determined that people who received long-term Chiropractic care never reached a maximum level of improvement. Those under Chiropractic care for over a year bore no sign of reaching a plateau in their health status. Even patients under care for more than 3 years showed no signs of approaching a health limiting ceiling.

One of the largest Chiropractic studies ever published showed a significant improvement in overall health and well-being for patients receiving Chiropractic adjustments. After evaluating over 2,800 patients in 156 clinics, a strong connection formed between persons receiving Chiropractic care and reported improvements in health, wellness, and quality-of-life. 95% of patients reported that this health care surpassed expectations and 99% of participants wished to continue care and adjustments.

Research and clinical studies strengthen the ideology that every human deserves to experience the benefits of long-term Chiropractic care. Chiropractic care benefits all ages and increases the health potential of all people regardless of gender, condition, or symptoms.

Chiropractors do not seek to treat or cure conditions. Chiropractors work with the innate (inborn) intelligence inside the body to allow for a better expression of health. Chiropractors achieve these benefits by removing interference from the central nervous system due to alterations in spinal movement and alignment. The autonomic nervous system controls and coordinates all automatic functions in the body, including heart rate, breathing, digestion, and fertility. Chiropractic expertise locates stress in the spine, called subluxation, and adjusts misalignments and restricted movements of the vertebrae. Subluxations in the spine do not always produce immediate pain and symptoms. Proactive Chiropractic care maintains optimal system function that directly opposes a health care system that waits for sickness and symptoms to attack the body. Adjustments reduce stress in the body and gently remove interference to the autonomic system, helping the body restore function through better brain balance. A proactive approach to health care drastically reduces the need for drugs and surgeries that plague people of all ages when reactive symptoms surface and damage quality of life.

The human brain operates with intelligence exponentially more sophisticated than the most powerful computers in the world. That amazing organ works to automatically control all balance and function connected to every system within the body. Chiropractic supports the self-evident truth that incredible intelligence exists in both the world and in each person. The intelligence inside the body consistently strives to keep our bodies in health and balance. Chiropractic honors the innate intelligence inside the body by finding and reducing any interference in the central nervous system through regular check-ups and adjustments when necessary.

Chiropractic adjustments help the body create better posture by reducing nervous system stress, increasing mobility, and allowing greater balance and spatial awareness. Improved posture proves to have lasting effects on many aspects of function beyond just musculoskeletal health. Science links improved posture to better breathing, sleep, hormone control, and brain health.

Parents often ask healthcare providers about the effects of bad posture and slouching on their children’s health. A study published in 2019 explained the effects of postural health on fourth grade children. One of the primary objectives of the study meant to find out if bad posture influenced the self-esteem of fourth graders.

The study involved 108 students. Facilitators assigned each student a randomized variable of assuming either a ‘high power’ pose or a ‘low power’ pose. Each student held the posture for one minute. The children were then evaluated using a standard self-esteem assessment.

High power posing consists of the non-verbal expression of power through expansive, open body postures. This stance becomes known as power posing. High power posing links to hormonal and behavioral changes. High power posing affects psychological processes, including feelings of empowerment and other emotional benefits. Students in high power posing showed a higher self-esteem, better mood, and more positive feelings regarding the student-teacher relationship. The findings show consistency with postural intervention effects in children and self-esteem elevation. This study revealed that good posture produced a large-scale effect on school related self-esteem.

The study involved asymptomatic fourth grade children. Improving posture for just one minute resulted in meaningful improvements in mood, emotions and self-esteem. The findings proved consistent with those seen in patients of all ages in Chiropractic clinics all over the world. Improvement of postural distortions through Chiropractic adjustments and postural exercises produce a variety of benefits for patients. This study supports Chiropractic care as a primary source of proactive health care for adults and children. Evidence based research continues to provide a litany of benefits experienced by people who proactively care for their spine, posture, and nervous system. Improving postural distortions represent one of many ways in which overall health improves in patients not experiencing immediate suffering from pain or musculoskeletal complaints.

The outcome traces back to the old adage which speaks to an ounce of prevention being worth more than a pound of cure. Providing the spine and nervous system with regular maintenance radiates improved health and vitality throughout the entire health structure of the body.

Headaches are not normal. The body was not designed to regularly suffer from headaches. Yet, many headache sufferers believe that headaches arrive as a normal part of being dealt a bad hand of genes or luck. Headaches occur commonly but never as a normal part of life.

The common occurrence of an event does not equate to normalcy. Flat tires and car accidents happen commonly but people do not deserve to experience them as a normal part of the day. The frequency and regularity of headaches leads people to believe their condition poses a common problem with a common solution – the regular consumption of drugs and pills. Chiropractic provides an alternative solution.

Research from a recent study noted that nervous system care positively affected symptoms that included headaches and other health challenges by simply empowering the body to function in a state of maximum efficiency.

Research from June of 2018 showed that Chiropractic adjustments helped people suffering from frequent headaches for more than two years by reducing stress in the autonomic nervous system. Additional benefits included a reduction in feelings of sadness and bouts of extreme low moods. Even thoughts of death and suicide lowered during the study. Physical therapy, acupuncture, traditional Chinese therapy, and six months of various drug treatments represented other forms of care utilized by headache sufferers. None compared to the effectiveness of Chiropractic care. Six months of chiropractic spinal care resulted in the alleviation of headache pain, depressive symptoms, and the need for medications.

Chiropractic does not pursue the treatment or cure for symptoms and conditions, including those experienced during headaches. The benefits of Chiropractic originate from removing interference from the nervous system through gentle and precise adjustments to the spine. The immense intelligence contained in the body always strives for health, adaptation, and balance. Symptoms occur largely due to interference in the body’s communication system. A predominant form of interference in the nervous system comes from misaligned spinal bones and limited mobility.

An estimated 80-90% of the population suffer from headaches at some point in their life, with over 15% of people experiencing headaches during a given moment in the day. Drug therapy tends to be the short-term form of treatment sought by people experiencing headaches. Research shows that long term benefits in both physical and mental health result from the healing and restoration stemming from scientifically proven spinal adjustments administered by Chiropractors. People deserve to know, understand, and experience the benefits of Chiropractic care. A healthier normal begins with Chiropractic care.

An old adage instructs that good things come to those who wait. Waiting to make health care choices proves to be a major exception to the time-honored virtue of patience. Dental checkups, mammograms, prostate exams and physicals help detect problems early or address them before they turn into a larger problem. New research proves the value of early intervention to address back and sciatica pain.

Human beings tend to treat problems reactively rather than visualize problems on the horizon.  Preventative care and proactive of health decisions represent some of the smartest and most cost-effective approaches for the whole family. The brain tends to address issues of immediate concern. The brain usually waits (reactively) until pain presents before calling attention to a health issue. Too often the problem existed for a previous time and could have been addressed to a healthier end.

Compelling research published in October 2020 showed that early intervention proved to be an essential ingredient in achieving long-term health satisfaction. Improvements in functional disability, pain intensity, and overall satisfaction resulted for people who sought early therapy and manual care intervention compared to people who waited or elected to use drug-therapy. The standard medical process for people with back pain and sciatica usually involves drug therapy to mask the pain while waiting to see if the problem progresses. This reactive approach risks greater long-term expenditure and the dangers of regular use of powerful pharmaceuticals. The wait and see approach combined with pain medication acknowledges a problem exists but does nothing to repair, fix, or heal the issue but rather allows the condition to persist.

Chiropractic care and physical therapy interventions help address problems before they become bigger and more permanent. Chiropractors use objective and specialized testing to determine the location and extent of a problem that needs to be addressed. America prescribes more prescription drugs than any country in the world. That reality contrasts with parents and families making a conscious decision to raise children and pursue health choices that do not involve dependency or need for medications. Chiropractic and physical therapeutic healthcare continue to gain momentum and popularity because of research that reveals the benefits of working with the body and honoring its ability to heal itself. When it comes to health care, good things come to those who don’t wait.

The calendar welcomes the time of the year when coughs, fevers, stuffy noses, and tummy aches become the norm for both kids and adults. Some people wonder why certain individuals remain unscathed and seemingly untouched by the microbes that cause sickness, even among family members living under the same roof.

Some people get labeled as simply having a stronger immune system than others. The powerful truth actually shows that every person’s body design comes equipped with an amazing immune system comprised of little soldiers with a specific purpose to be on constant lookout for foreign invaders. The location of an invader causes a set of hormones to signal a need for more specific white blood cell fighters to crash the scene and get to work destroying and eliminating the culprits. This process occurs without the conscious awareness of the host/person. The protective procedure occurs automatically under the control of a part of the brain and spinal cord called the autonomic nervous system.

Chiropractic adjustments improve the function of the autonomic nervous system through gentle adjustments that increase movement in the spine. Better alignment and movement in the spine creates better pathways of communication between the nervous system and immune system. The adjustment balances the autonomic processes by reducing stress in the nervous system. Improved nervous system function leads to better hormone balance needed guide optimal immune function. Improved immunity results.

Research conducted in 2010 showed that patients who received chiropractic adjustments increased a specific signaling molecule in the body called Interleukin-2. This molecule regulates the activities of white blood cells responsible for immunity. Interleukin-2 represents part of the body’s natural response to microbial infection and helps the body recognize and create specific responses that neutralize foreign invaders. Evidence of this protein molecule shows to be present in higher quantity in people who received a chiropractic spinal adjustment compared to people who did not.

The primary focus of a chiropractic adjustment does not focus on increasing immunity or treating a symptom or condition. The increased body function from an adjustment serves as an example of a healthy outcome resulting from removing interference from the nervous system. While other professions focus more on changing the environment to minimize microbes in and around the body, chiropractic focuses on strengthening the body from the inside-out.

Four ways to improve immunity:

  1. Stay on track with chiropractic adjustments to keep the autonomic nervous system balanced.
  2. Get adequate amounts of Vitamin D (a major immune booster).
  3. Go to bed 30-60 minutes earlier (inadequate sleep weakens immunity).
  4. Substitute water and healthy snacks in place of sugary foods/drinks (sugar drains the immune system).

The top resolutions for 2021 include weight loss, improved physical fitness, smoking cessation, increasing financial revenue, minimizing stress, and simply enjoying life more. A new year brings new challenges and opportunities. The majority of adults approach a new year with fleeting commitments to look better, feel better, accomplish more and merge onto a more fulfilling path. Chiropractic offers a lifestyle change bearing tremendous power to positively impact a variety of resolutions.

A year of lockdowns, the pandemic, and working from home created more challenges and stress than any year over the last five decades. Millions of people enter 2021 needing an intervention that reduces stress without the use of drugs or surgery. Chiropractic care does not simply alleviate pain and improve movement. The benefits of an adjustment extend far beyond the alleviation of pain and symptoms. The intimate relationship between the spine and central nervous system means that every adjustment helps open neural pathways that contribute to creating a stronger and more efficient body. Greater efficiency requires less energy to operate normal daily systems in the body and the body experiences less stress.

Chiropractors spend years studying scientifically based methods of improving natural function and healing. Research confirms that a specific hormone called norepinephrine increases when the body experiences stress. Norepinephrine enters the blood when the brain perceives that a stressful event occurred or will soon take place. According to studies, diseases linked directly to an increase in stress hormones include cancer, bipolar disorder, excessive body weight, hypertension, type 1 autoimmune diabetes, type 2 diabetes, glaucoma, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, asthma, and immune system function.

The observation of those conditions proves just how delicate and significant stress hormone levels are to health, function, and the accomplishment of any life improvement goal. Chiropractic adjustments improve many aspects of human health and performance. Research done using expensive PET scan technology proves that gentle chiropractic adjustments help reduce stress hormone levels by removing stress from the central nervous system.

Starting a new weight loss strategy, exercise program, or dietary plan should utilize chiropractic to maximize overall health improvement. A body functioning in harmony naturally uses energy to accomplish intended purposes that include better fitness, weight loss, or any number of health outcomes. Start the New Year by opening the communication pathway between the brain and body with evidence based spinal adjustments. Chiropractic continues to be the most safe and effective choice for optimal health performance in 2021 and beyond.

New Research Sheds Light On A Painful Topic

Disc herniations plague millions of people every year. The most common route taken by most seeking pain relief comes from strong medication, cortisone shots, and back surgery. Back pain can be so severe that many suffering from such stabbing and burning pain resort to anything that produces even the slightest bit of comfort. Sleep becomes a chore and evening rest tends to be the worst for those suffering from the pain of a disc herniation. No amount of positioning provides enough pain relief to sleep as the minutes dwindle by before the start of another pain-filled workday. Solutions outside of drugs and surgery exist that reduce pain and promote healing for those suffering from disc herniations.

Sometimes people call a herniation a slipped disc. That image proves inaccurate because the discs within the spine cannot slip. The discs in the spine look somewhat like two dinner plates stacked with a water balloon in between them. The plates represent the bones, and the water balloon represents the gel comprising an intervertebral disc. Injuries, degeneration, continuous wear and tear, or a combination of all these factors cause a part of the water balloon to tear. The tear forces the gel-like substance to protrude outside the balloon. This resembles the mechanism of what happens with a herniated disc.

The cartilage material on the outside of the disc tears, and a gel-like substance protrudes out into the spinal canal. Discomfort and pressure on the nerves produce burning and stabbing pain along the path of the nerve. Disc herniations can heal without surgery and many therapies have been proven to help people suffering from disc herniations. Disc decompression, nutrition, lifestyle modifications, and natural therapies represent some pathways to success.

Research from 2014 studied a group of adults living with back pain, leg pain, and disc herniations (confirmed by an MRI). The patients receiving low back adjustments from a chiropractor achieved extraordinary results. The percentage of patients in this study reporting substantial improvement after one month of care was close to 80%. Approximately 90% of patients with back pain, leg pain, and disc herniations reported significant benefits from spinal adjustments after six months.

Unaddressed spinal subluxations also represent a cause of disc herniations. Proactive chiropractic care serves as a method of prevention evident in the research study. Chiropractors do not specifically target herniated discs or other symptoms related to the spine. A chiropractic adjustment improves spinal mobility and alignment and reduces interference in the nervous system to allow the body to better heal itself. Chiropractic represents a front-line option for those suffering from back pain, sciatica, or disc related issues. Options exist for those faced with a decision regarding whether or not to pursue invasive care like spinal surgery or the risk of powerful and addicting pharmaceuticals. Pain relief exists with chiropractic care.

Chiropractic adjustments began producing a litany of evidence-based outcomes that benefit males and females of all ages dating back over 100 years. People do not often think of chiropractic being an essential part of proactive health for both adult and adolescent development, but research proves that a healthy and well-regulated nervous system sets the stage for a lifetime of optimal health.

One of the most important and often overlooked benefits of chiropractic care comes in the form of a positive impact on stress relief. Those children and adults yet to experience the benefits of chiropractic carry a stress load that could otherwise be uniquely reduced by simply initiating care for the spine and nervous system. The brain and nervous system direct hormones in the body. Hormones turn specific functions in the body on and off. Certain hormones produce peace, ease, and growth. Other hormones create heightened levels anxiety, stress, and inattentiveness.

Stress hormones regulate feelings commonly known as fight or flight responses. Stress hormones serve a great purpose when under specific circumstances such as being chased by a bear or trying to save a child from danger. These same hormones produce stress and anxiety when activated during normal, peaceful times of day during work, school, or at home with family.

Studies show that stress hormones increase when the spine rests in a misaligned or immovable position. Chiropractors expertly assess and correct spinal misalignments to reduce stress in the nervous system and body. Research from 2014 showed that a chiropractic adjustment reduced stress hormones in the blood, an indication of reduced overall stress load in the body.

Many people believe current issues and stressors exist at an all-time high. Individuals and families face anxiety over a pandemic, fears of sickness, political divisiveness, financial security, and other tensions that cause a surge in worry and fear. Chiropractors help people of all ages reduce stress loads so that their body becomes free to experience relief and calm in moments of fear and challenges. Spinal misalignments and nervous system interference usually occur without the presence of physical pain. The body attempts to adapt to adverse spinal positioning but does so at the expense of heightened stress loads and increased stress hormones. People may not physically feel a misaligned vertebra, but most people feel the physical presence of elevated stress and tension. Chiropractic offers the natural health alternative of a well-functioning body rather than pills and pharmaceutical drugs offered by other medical providers. A nervous system operating and healing at optimal levels offers a unique stress-relieving option for long term harmony and health building. Experience a more peaceful tomorrow with chiropractic.

Going back to school usually coincides with annual checkups and physical health measurements. One of those check-ups usually includes a yearly physical exam from a pediatrician or family doctor. Doctors will advise on issues like diet, exercise, and vision in addition to monitoring the heart, blood pressure, and testing for diabetes. Student-athletes also undergo yearly physicals as a mandatory step in being cleared to practice and play in most states.

Taking a child in for a yearly physical serves as a very similar reason that health conscious parents take their children to a chiropractor for a back to school spine and nervous system evaluation. Some parents do not yet understand the lifelong value of a spinal exam for a child or teen. The importance of spinal care for long term health cannot be measured and chiropractors pursue the mission of educating all people about proactive long-term health care.

A new shift towards preventative care encourages many parents to visit chiropractic offices for family checkups. The health of the spine intimately connects to the function of the brain and nervous system. Science and research continue to discover and unpack the importance of spinal alignment and movement on overall health, growth, focus and development for all ages. Misaligned or immovable sections of the spine negatively influence the central nervous system, setting off a cascade of hormones that lead to unwanted symptoms and conditions.

Research done by medical doctors and published in peer-reviewed literature continues to reveal the influence of posture on overall health and well-being. One well known study evaluated posture using x-rays and plumb-line measurements. Every patient in the study listed specific symptoms or ailments they were suffering from that correlated with increased deviations in their spine and posture. Abnormal measures of blood pressure, pulse, and respiration were recorded. Research determined that every recorded aspect of health got worse as the posture deviations (shifts in posture) increased.

Abnormal spinal posture, misalignments and altered vertebral movement occur like tooth cavities without back or neck pain-type symptoms. The relationship between the spine and nervous system result in spinal abnormalities that alter the entire health function of a child or adult. The host of unhealthy outcomes and symptoms include less focus, less concentration, less energy, interference with immunity and digestion, and more. The spine intimately connects to the nervous system and interference limits health potential.

Annual health checkups and physicals serve a purpose of protecting and providing support for children engaged in periods of tremendous growth physically, mentally, and emotionally. Every child deserves an opportunity to experience optimized health and function. A return to school marks an annual rite of passage to a new year of growth. Let this year be a year of proactive health by scheduling a nervous system check-up with the family chiropractor.

Chiropractors began helping men, women, and children of all ages get and stay well without the use of drugs and surgery in 1895. The Chiropractic profession stands the test of time through patient-centered care and results. Research continues to show the value of Chiropractic care through evidence that shows a reduction in the need for drugs, surgery, and expensive forms of healthcare.

Current research evaluated the cost effectiveness of Chiropractor care compared to standard medical care. The research reveals that people with insurance coverage that includes a Chiropractors care experienced lower annual healthcare costs. A blue cross and blue shield insurance study documented that those who first sought Chiropractic-guided treatment saved an average of 40% on annual healthcare cost. Seeking Chiropractic treatment actually reduced overall medical spending.

Chiropractic treatment also led to a 60% decrease in spinal surgeries and produced more favorable outcomes. People who seek relief for lower back pain through the medical care model usually end up taking addictive painkillers that often lead to negative outcomes. Patients who visit Chiropractors not only discover relief from neck and lower back pain at a lower annual cost, but also report long-term outcomes that produce more effective long term wellness.

Over a dozen states in the US embrace alternative therapy options like Chiropractic care to combat the cost of the opioid abuse epidemic. The Missouri health division committee estimated that such savings would exceed $25 million by 2019. Another dynamic model estimated savings of up to $42 million. A large portion of that savings (up to $6.4 million) directly attributed to using Chiropractic care for treatment, including reduced costs from of spinal surgery. The largest source of savings in this model stemmed from how much money would be saved if people chose Chiropractic to manage pain and seek healing rather than devolve into an abyss of dangerous opioids. Savings in this category ranged from $11.2 million to $42 million.

Research shows that Chiropractic care provides better outcomes at lower cost for people in pain. Chiropractic leads to a reduction in the cost of spinal surgery while producing significant savings from reduced use and abuse of opioid prescription drugs. Studies continue to show the value of Chiropractic care for individuals as well as the whole of society. Chiropractic will continue to be a key healthcare profession utilized to lower costs, improve outcomes, reduce drug abuse, and help improve quality of life for all ages.
